The West Akyem District Assembly is pursuing income generation in partnership with private business concerns to provide employment for its people.
The District Chief Executive, Mr Kwabena Sintim-Aboagye, said the assembly had acquired a gari-processing factory at Topease at a cost of ยข239 million.
Speaking at a People's Assembly at Asamankese on Wednesday, he said the assembly had also entered into partnership with Abex Impex to turn the abandoned rattan factory into a vegetable oil factory to offer employment to about 25 people and in addition provide ready market for oil palm farmers in the district.
Mr Sintim-Aboagye said the assembly had collaborated with the Pinora Company Limited, a fruit-processing factory, which had created employment for about 300 people.
He therefore urged farmers in the district to go into large scale orange and pineapple production to support the factory.
Mr Sintim-Aboagye said the assembly had entered into partnership with a non-governmental organization based in Accra to construct an art and craft centre at Asamankese.
