The National Tripartite Committee has agreed on a new daily minimum wage, which has pushed it up by 18.75 per cent from 16,000 cedis to 19,000 cedis.
A communiqué signed by Mrs Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Deputy Minister of Manpower, Youth and Employment; Mrs Rose Karikari Anang, Executive Director of Ghana Employers' Association and Kwesi Adu-Amankwah, Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress, said the effective date of implementation would be February 1, 2007.
It said the Committee agreed the new wage at its meeting on January 30.
It said any institution, organisation or establishment whose daily minimum wage fell below the new wage should adjust accordingly.
"The National Tripartite Committee expresses its commitment to establishing a living wage and the parties agreed to work towards its determination."
