The Nabdam Constituency NPP Executive Board and Party Elders have described Hon. Moses Asaga, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nabdam in the Upper East Region as a 'Mwai Kibaki' whose mission is to remain the MP for the area.
They said, as a desperate man fighting to retain power at all costs come 2008 Parliamentary elections, he should have used every platform granted him to preach peace and unity among the people, rather than attacking noble people who have served Nabdam assiduously.
Hon. Asaga is alleged to have descended into the gutter by using insulting language against personalities in NPP, as well as threatening and swearing to tribal shrines against them to the effect that he would win the 2008 parliamentary election at all costs.
A statement, signed by the NPP Nabdom Constituency Chairman, noted that the MP who was addressing students from Nabdam and some NDC faithful at a meeting held on January 4, 2008 at Pelugu, described NPP followers as cowards and full of lies.
He was said to have even dared Col. (Rtd) David Zanlerigu and Hon. Boniface Gambila to swear on a shrine as proof that they brought about the construction of Asonge-Pelugu-Sekoti roads.
The executives contended that his outburst did not stop there. He was also alleged to have had the impudence to state that NPP presidential flagbearer, Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, was afraid of him.
"The very high goodwill of Nabdams for Boniface Gambila and the NPP this time around, which is evidence of him winning the 2008 parliamentary election, and numerous defections of NDC faithful including Mr. John Kwesi, Asaga's former campaign strategist, and Mr. Samuel Tongdaan, a fqrmer NDC Constituency Secretary, appear to be driving Moses Asaga crazy," they said.
They said it was rather unfortunate and indeed shameful that the MP's invectives did not spare the Nabdam intelligentsia by describing all Nabdam people who have completed university as dwarfs.
The NPP executive and party elders appealed to the party's numerous supporters and sympathizers to remain resolutely calm and firm in their decision to unseat the MP this time around, and not cave in to fear any empty threats.
They said their stock in trade is peace and explanation of issues to win the conscience of the electorate, and not violence and intimidation.
They therefore called on all political actors in Nabdam to do responsible and violent free campaign in 2008.
"We particularly urge party foot-soldiers to conduct themselves in a civil, fair and decent manner to keep the peace and already existing cordial relationship amongst political parties in the constituency," they added.
