The Peoples National Convention (PNC) has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) for failing to organise Intra-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) meetings in the country. Speaking to Joy News, Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, Chairman of the PNC said the EC’s failure to organise the meetings has deprived the party of the opportunity to make practical contributions to multiparty democracy in the country. He said since 2004, the EC has not organised regular meetings for the political parties. The EC however, organises meetings in election years. Responding, the EC has dismissed the accusations, claiming the party has no justification for the accusations. Mr. Samuel Yorke Aidoo, Director of Public Affairs of the EC told Joy News that while it is true that the EC has not organised any meeting since 2004, there is no justification for the parties to accuse the EC. He says most of the political parties are not operating because they have no offices country-wide. He also said apart from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), no party has made requests for meetings in recent times. He said the last time any meeting was organised with the political parties was when meetings was held in Akosombo to discuss the funding of political parties. He however said very soon meetings would be held with the political parties to discuss issues regarding the replacement of missing voters’ ID cards and the exhibition of the voters’ register.
