Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says Ghana will come out of the 2020 general elections more united and stronger with her democratic credential fully intact.
Addressing a visiting European Union delegation at the Jubilee House, the Vice President said the Akufo-Addo led administration was working tirelessly to maintain Ghana’s peace and stability in the Sub Saharan Region even as the election period draws nearer.
“This year is an election year and therefore, it is a very important year. We have to continue to maintain Ghana’s peace and stability and we will work very hard. The president [Nana Akufo-Addo] has made this very clear [and] we will work very hard as has always been the case, to continue to make sure Ghana is a beacon for peace and stability,” he said.
According to him, history bears witness to Ghana’s calm disposition in the face of disagreements and believes such demeanor will prevail in the upcoming general election.
He, however, wants those with issues with the electoral process to head to court instead of resorting to violence.
“The history shows that no matter how contentious the elections are, Ghanaians are a peaceful people and we’re law-abiding and if we have disagreements, the courts are always available to go to for redress.
“So we expect that the elections occur in an atmosphere of transparency, peace and of stability and we’ll continue to maintain Ghana as a beacon of peace and stability in the sub-region or the region as a whole,” he concluded.
