Mr Mike Alan Hammah, a former Member of Parliament, was on Saturday declared unopposed as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Effutu Constituency at Winneba.
Mr Hammah, a Building Technologist, was the only candidate who had filed his nomination after close of nominations.
Central Region and Effutu constituency executives conducted the election, which was supervised by Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Electoral Officer, Mr Anthony Oppong.
According to the party’s constitution read at the conference by Mr Oppong, "if after close of filing of nomination and there is one candidate, that person would be declared unopposed" and therefore declared Mr Mike Hammah who was the sole candidate unopposed.
Mr Oppong promised to continue to work hand in hand with all political parties in the District to ensure a successful election this year.
He said the voters’ register would be opened in March and urged the various parties to educate their supporters who had attained the age of 18 years and those who could not register because of certain reasons to register to enable them to take part in the forthcoming election.
Mr Hammah thanked members of the party for the trust they had had in him and called for their support and cooperation towards the victory of the party.
He called for forgiveness if in the past he had offended anybody, adding that what was needed now was hard work and vigorous campaign to win more votes for the party to come back to power.
Mr. Valis Achianu, Central Region Chairman of the Party advised members to come together as one body fighting for their party to win this year's election to rescue Ghanaians from hardship.
Mr Kojo Asmah Bondzie, Effutu Constituency Chairman of the party, appealed to the members and supporters to intensify their house to house campaign.
