Parliamentary aspirants who wish to contest the 2008 parliamentary elections on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been cautioned to desist from campaigning in constituencies with sitting Members of Parliament.
The General Secretary of the NPP, Nana Ohene Ntow, who gave the caution in a statement, expressed concern that some aspirants had been violating an earlier notice, warning them against such act.
The practice, he said is seriously undermining the confidence and concentration of sitting MPs, thus compromising their focus as far as their parliamentary duties were concerned.
For him, it is an offence to engage in active, open campaigning in constituencies with sitting MPs prior to the opening of nominations in such constituencies, adding that offenders may be prohibited from participating in the primaries should they be found culpable.
The decision he said is in the interest of party unity, stability and discipline, and enjoined all concerned to cooperate with the party
leadership on the issue.
