Peter Ndegwa, Managing Director of Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited (GGBL), has led a delegation of Senior Executives from Diageo PLC, parent company of Guinness Ghana Ltd, to pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
The delegation presented a portfolio of Diageo’s Reserve brands, Gilbey’s Gin (GGBL’s first locally manufactured spirit beverage), and the new labeled Star Lager beer, as part of a regular business update to Otumfuo.
The delegation was made up of Nick Blazquez, President of Diageo Africa, Turkey, Russia, Central and Eastern Europe Andy Fennell, President and Chief Operating Officer, Diageo Africa, Ekwunife Okoli, Managing Director, African Regional Markets and Preba Greenstreet, Corporate Relations Director of GGBL.
"As the home to our headquarters in Ghana, the business is committed to continue investing in our operations in Kumasi", Dr. Blazquez noted.
He further revealed that last year, Diageo invested GH¢ 90million in ultra-modern equipment to increase production.
"We will continue to impact the communities in which we operate through the employment opportunities we provide directly and indirectly, our innovative use of local raw materials, which creates value and improves livelihoods for farmers, and our Water of Life projects across the country", he stressed.
He also expressed gratitude to Otumfuo for supporting Guinness Ghana throughout the years.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II commended Guinness Ghana for the investments and impact they are making in the Ashanti Region and Ghana as a whole and gave assurance of his continued support to the business.
The Asantehene was particularly pleased to receive the new label Star Lager beer, which gave credence to the continued brewing and packaging of Star beer in Kumasi, and welcomed the addition of Gilbey’s Gin to Guinness Ghana's portfolio of products.
He therefore encouraged the company to continue to expand its use of locally sourced raw materials to drive development for farmers and Ghana as a whole.
