A medical non-governmental organisation, Havana Club Foundation (HCF), which main focus is to offer health services to deprived communities has organised a free medical care outreach to the people of Anyinam in the Eastern region.
The group which is made up of mainly Cuban trained Ghanaian medical doctors, include medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other professionals trained elsewhere.
Over 500 residents of the community thronged the premises of the Atiwa Health Centre in Anyinam to receive free medical care. The team gave a lecture on disease prevention, diagnosed and treated patients. Those requiring emergency treatment were treated on the spot.
Free drugs and medications were given to the people.
Dr. Louis Armooh, an ENT specialist of the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital, a member of the Club who was on the team, said many such outreach programmes are in the pipeline to reach many other needy communities in the future.
Some of the drugs for the outreach were provided by the Procurement Unit of the Ministry of Health and Bedita Pharmacy. The trip from Accra to Anyinam was sponsored by Bacardi Nite Club.
