An Accra Regional Tribunal on Tuesday remanded two Lithuanian nationals in custody until March 31 for attempting to export 2.94 kilograms of cocaine to the United Kingdom.
The tribunal ordered that Dilys Audrius be remanded in prison custody but the second accused who is a minor should be put in the juvenile cells at the Headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Department.
The facts of the case as narrated by the prosecution when the two foreigners were first put before the tribunal on February 13 this year were that, on October 3 last year, they arrived at the Kotoka International Airport to board a flight to London.
While going through departure formalities, officials of the Narcotic Control Board on duty at the airport became suspicious of the travelling bag of the two accused persons.
The prosecution said when the bag was opened in their presence, a whitish powdery substance suspected to be cocaine was found in a false compartment in the bag.
When Dilys was searched, she had nine pellets of cocaine concealed in her socks and underwear.
According to the prosecution, the two accused persons were sent to the 37 Military Hospital where Dilys expelled nine pellets while the minor expelled 45 pellets.Source: GNA
