The campaign team of the NPP flag bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo has accused the NDC of sparking the clash between the two sides at the Chief Imam’s palace last Friday. It said Friday’s confrontation at Fadama is a foretaste of how the NDC intends to intimidate its opponents in campaigning for the December elections.In a statement issued on Saturday, the team said the confrontation at Fadama between its supporters and its rival’s is an indication of the NDC’s preparedness to prosecute an agenda of violence during the campaign for the December polls.Supporters of the two flag bearers clashed yesterday after paying courtesy calls on the Chief Imam at his Fadama residence here in Accra.Whiles Prof. Atta Mills’ team blames the clash on what it says was an attempt by its rival to block a major road without sufficient public notice, Nana Akufo-Addo’s team says its investigations suggest the incident is one of the many tactics the NDC intends to deploy to disrupt the 2008 elections.Nana Akufo-Addo’s communications manager, Dr. Arthur Kennedy, who signed the statement told Joy News that the confrontation had been orchestrated by the NDC.Supporters of the two parties clashed at the Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Shaributu’s palace after they had gone to meet with the Imam prior to the celebrations of Maulid, the birth of Prophet Mohammed.The campaign team of the NDC flag bearer, Prof. Mills had gone there first but left to the party’s constituency office to address rally.Returning from the rally, the supporters met the road allegedly being blocked by Nana Addo and his campaign team who had taken their turn at Imam at the Imam’s.According to the Communication Director of Prof. Mills’ campaign, Mr. Koku Anyidoho said the police attempted to redirect the entourage but the supporters resisted it.They insisted on using the main road resulting in the confrontation between the supporters of the two political parties.
