A Christian based political party, the New Vision Party (NVP) is the latest political party to join the political fray for the December elections. The party, founded by a Reverend Minister of the Pentecost Church, Prophet Daniel Nkansah has no ideological leanings to either liberal democracy or social democracy.Instead, it takes its roots from Christianity and Christian principles. The party's colours are purple, yellow and white. The founder of the NVP, Prophet Nkansah told Joy News that God revealed to him the need to form a political party and redeem Ghanaians from the shackles of poverty. He said he will consult God on all issues and pray for His guidance in all decisions.Prophet Nkansah said he was confident of winning the December elections.“I am here by miracle. I am going to win by a miracle”, he told Joy News’ Bernard Shaibu. The Interim National Chairman of the party, Pastor Joel Aaron King said the leadership of the church received the revelation from God about two years ago.He said following the revelation the party was formed and took a provisional certificate from the Electoral Commission in December last year.Asked whether the party had the structures to be able to prosecute an election agenda, he said the leadership had toured the country and laid the foundation for a smooth take off of its campaign.Pastor King stressed the need for Ghanaians to support the party since all other political parties had made empty promises and were not working according to the will of God.He said the party will bridge the gap between the poor and the rich. The Director of Elections at the EC, Mr. Albert Kofi Arhin said he was not aware that the NVP was a religious based party. He was responding to queries from Joy News’ Evan Mensah as to whether the party’s emphasis on religious doctrine was not in contravention of the Constitution. The Constitution says that no political party should be formed based on ethnic group, region or religion.According to Mr. Arhin the EC checked to find out if the party had offices in all the ten regions as demanded by the Constitution. He said the commission however did investigate the ideology of the NVP.Story by Malik Abass Daabu
