Mr Dan Kwaku Botwe, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been asked to rescind his decision not to take part in NPP primaries for the Okere constituency.
Mr Samuel Larbi, a spokesperson for some 70 NPP polling station chairmen out of the 85 from the constituency, on Saturday made the appealed on behalf of the group at a press conference at Apiredi in the Eastern Region.
The spokesman urged Mr Botwe to contest the primaries since majority of the polling station chairmen supported him.
Mr Larbi denied the allegation that the National Executive Committee of the party intentionally disqualified aspirants to pave way for Mr Botwe.
The spokesman said the accusation was baseless since the NPP hierarchy had the discretion to take final decision as to who to lead the party.
Mr Larbi explained that the disqualification of Mr Paul Larbi and Mr Clement Ofori was in the right direction because they had not served the party for at least two years as demanded by NPP constitution.
He said the two aspirants obtained their membership cards in February this year, while Mr Charles Okraku Budu, the third aspirant, a polling station chairman, failed to resign from that position before filling nomination papers.
