Mr. Emmanuel Ansah-Antwi, flag bearer of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), has said failure by past governments to develop a comprehensive agricultural policy had resulted in the abject poverty facing majority of farmers.
Mr. Ansah-Antwi, who was speaking at the inauguration of the party’s office in Techiman, said the DFP would develop agriculture to become a vibrant industry.
“Scientific agriculture should be promoted and not the current subsistence agriculture that relies on the vagaries of the weather”, he said.Mr. Ansah-Antwi appealed to Ghanaians to support the party for a change in the politics of Ghana.
Dr. Obed Asamoah, patron of the party, said DFP would focus on removing bottlenecks in agriculture, trade and tourism and review the over liberal trade policies of NDC and NPP that had hampered the growth of local industries.
He said the party believed in the principles of social democracy and would re-introduce subsidy on agriculture in a “green revolution.”
Mr. Biede Zeideng, General Secretary, said the party would soon conduct primaries in more than 13 constituencies in Brong-Ahafo Region, including Techiman North and Techiman South constituencies.
He appealed to party executives and polling station chairmen to step up their campaigns and to focus on opinion leaders such as teachers, nurses and traditional authorities.Source:GNA
