Fresh fighting has broken out at Yinyamba in Gushegu district in the Northern region.
Several people have been reported injured during what a police officer described as “free for all fight” between two Kokomba farming communities, Yiyamba and Bariba over a parcel of land.
Dozens of homes have also been set on fire in the renewed clash.
Gushegu government hospital administrator, Emmanuel Donkoh confirmed to Joy News a while ago that two people are being treated after sustaining gun shot wounds.
"For now they are two. One is in the OPD the other is in the theatre," he stated.
Residents in nearby communities say they could hear gunshots and thick smoke billow from a distance.
A sub-chief in a nearby town, Naa David Wunzoya said the conflict began around 4:00 am.
"They have started burning Yiyamba," he said.
He said standing from a distance on top of a hill he could see houses going up in smoke. According to him, residents of the two communities have been arguing over a piece of land.
Gushegu, is a small town in the Northern Region and is the capital of Gushegu district. The town has been a harbinger of ethnic conflict with series of curfews announced at different periods.
The District Chief Executive of Gushegu Alhaji Fuseini said they had the information about the clashes this morning and deployed police personnel to the area.
He said the residents were fighting over a new parcel of land. That was after two parcels of land which triggered an initial conflict were confiscated from them.
According to him, the residents of the two communities assured government and security personnel they were going to resolve their grievances amicably only to resort to guns few days after.
He said the police are yet to make any arrest even though investigations have begun.
