A former football administrator and a philanthropist , Vincent Sower Odoitei, has asked the government to take active interest in constructing culverts and water ways to address the perennial floods that render many destitute and destroy properties.
Mr. Odoitei believes that was the only way to save the country from suffering further harm and therefore, urged the government through the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), who have the financial muscle to embark on such project and make it their priority.
He noted that instead of the Assemblies investing in projects that would benefit the people, they rather spend the huge sums of money on that has no value to the people.
Mr. vincent Odoitei made this observation when he went round to inspect some areas that were affected by a severe downpour recently at La in the Greater Accra Region.
The heavy rains flooded homes and destroyed several propertiesm rendering many residents homeless.
Among the areas he visited include; Abese, Kowe Jorna and Agyeman all in La in the La Dade Kotopon constituency.
Alarmed by the harm caused by the floods, Mr. Odoitei told journalists who accompanied him on his tour that it was very important for government to make the construction of culverts and drains its priority to ensure the free flow of water through the communities.
The former football administrator noted that the issue of floods in Accra had been with the people since the days of Adam and wandered why successive governments have failed to take steps to tackle it.
Mr. Odoitei, who is also a native of La, promised to reconstruct drains in the La neighbourhood where a community nursery school was also severely affected by the floods.
That notwithstanding, he promised to refurbish the Community Center in the area which was in a very deplorable state.
