The Presidential Candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party Nana Akufo Addo said the approval of the 70% government shares in Ghana Telecom to Vodafone UK is a victory to Ghana’s democracy.
"We are happy to have a democracy that is working. The institutions of our country are doing the work that the constitution has assigned them . Parliament has had an exhaustive examination of this transaction and has concluded that it is in the best interest of the nation. This is the Ghana that we want." the presidential candidate said happily.
Nana Akufo Addo made these remarks in an interview with Joy parliamentary correspondents immediately after the bill was ratified on Thursday.
Reacting to claims by the opposition that the GT / Vodafone transaction lacked transparency, Addo Danquah Akufo Addo said there cannot be any transparency better than this.
He said due process had been followed throughout the transaction and parliament’s approval crowned what has been a successful deal which is in the best interest of the country.
He strongly rebutted claims that the ratification was contradictory to his own slogan “I believe in Ghana” saying the slogan did not mean foreign investors would not be encouraged in the country.
According to him, he believes in excellence and the participation of Vodafone in the operations of GT is a sure way to improving the telecommunications industry in the country.
