Youth at Xikpo in the Volta Region are demanding action against the military man who allegedly killed two rampaging residents and a stranger yesterday.
The residents had blocked the main road from Akatsi to Sogakope in protest of the knocking down of a resident by a speeding Hyundai vehicle.
The residents say the lack of speed ramps on the road has resulted in several knock downs, with some causing deaths.
Godwin Kuul, a youth leader there, told Joy News the military man “pointed his gun at people” and shot three people dead.
He also narrated how one of the three, a woman, was hit in the abdomen and demanded accountability.
“That officer must be brought to book; because to my best of knowledge, even if it is a criminal issue you can also tame the person by the leg or arm so that you can arrest the person.
“Here we were not having any weapons; we were just doing a peaceful demonstration. About five soldiers came but this particular one immediately he reached the scene he started opening fire.”
One of the dead was a non-resident who was in a moving vehicle, Kuul recounted.
Meanwhile, District Chief Executive for South Tongu Mawuko Eworyi has indicated efforts are already underway to construct speed ramps on the road to help check over speeding.
