The Argentina players have shown just how admirable they are after reportedly donating nearly £80,000 of their World Cup prize money to a Buenos Aires hospital.
The Albiceleste squad were paid £14.6m for finishing in second place in the tournament in Brazil with the players deciding to give a portion of that sum to Hospital Garrahan’s paediatric cancer centre, according to reports in Argentina.
Midfielder Javier Mascherano reportedly came up with the wonderful idea before captain Lionel Messi oversaw the donation through his foundation, which has previously given money to the hospital.
The news comes after Germany midfielder, Mesut Ozil, was said to have donated his £240,000 World Cup bonus – which he received for helping his team win the competition at the Maracana last week – to projects in Brazil.
