A Nigerian, who has been identified as Uche is alleged to have drowned in the Odaw river at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Wednesday night.
Reports said his lifeless body was recovered several hours after he fell in the river.
The river, has over the years taken some innocent lives due to its gaping nature. It has no culverts to protect the lives of the hundreds of persons plying the route each day.
Squatters have also taken over the area as residents while engaging in brisk businesses.
They are mostly housed in make-shift structures and unkempt environment, which tend to endanger their lives through ill-health.
Anytime it rained, the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, where the Odaw river is situated got flooded, posing danger to human lives.
The footpaths near the river become muddy and slippery and anyone who lost control of their walking steps could easily fall into the river.
Joy News’ Kwakye Afreh-Nuamah, who visited the area, said the squatters expressed worries over the incessant loss of lives in the river.
He indicated there were more than 30 small kiosks lined up along the banks of the river.
He added mechanics, carpenters and welders operated from the area in search of their daily bread.
