The Convention People’s Party Member of Parliament for Ellembelle Freddy Blay insists he will not withdraw his legal suit against the party until the decision to nullify his election is revoked.
The executive committee of the party nullified the Ellembelle primaries which elected Freddy Blay for the fourth time alleging that he was canvassing support for the New Patriotic Party presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo.
Even though party executives have expressed the desire for an out-of-court settlement, Freddy insists the party first has to rescind its decision to nullify his election.
Speaking to Joy News, Hon Blay accused the party of not conducting any investigations into the allegations before arriving at their decision to nullify his election.
“If anything happens at the Region is it not the regional executives who will take it up. Assuming what they are saying it is true, what stopped them from consulting the regional and constituency executives, but only acted based on newspaper reports?”
Hon Blay said emphatically he would not appear before any disciplinary committee since the Central Committee failed to conduct due diligence on the matter.
While he did not dispute the possibility of an out-of-court settlement, he said the party executives are engaging in a needless show of power.
“Nobody has brought up any realistic and good suggestion for an out-of-court settlement, except that people are acting as though in authority, and you are challenging them."
Hon Blay is hoping for the court to revoke the decision by the Central Committee to nullify his election.
The case is due for court on September 18, 2008.
