Former President Jerry John Rawlings, on Wednesday asked people in the Volta Region to consider December 7 as a day of liberation and vote massively for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“If you normally give the NDC 95 per cent, make it 99 per cent this year for your total liberation from socio-economic injustice and intimidations”, he said.
Former President Rawlings was addressing rallies at Kpedze, Tsito and Abutia, in the region, as part of his four days campaign tour of the region.
He accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of looting the nation and was desperate to hold on to power to prevent its deeds from being exposed.
Former President Rawlings urged the people in the region to maintain their loyalty to the NDC.
He said “I commend the Volta Region for keeping faith with the NDC even when things were hard. I urge you to remain where you are because our brothers from the Eastern, Western and Central regions who were deceived to the other side are coming back”.
A win for the NPP will further reduce people from the region to third and fourth rate citizens and into slaves”.
Mr Kofi Adams, NDC Deputy National Youth Organizer, urged the people to continue to campaign for truth and justice and protect their votes by being vigilant on the day of the election.
Mr Dan Abodakpi, Member of Parliament for Keta, criticized government’s implementation of the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education and the National Health Insurance Scheme and said the NDC would review these policies to ensure that all citizens benefited from the programmes.
