The Minority in Parliament are yet to receive an invitation to attend the 50th Anniversary celebration of the country on the 6th of March.
Minority Leader Alban Bagbin told the Daily Guide newspaper in Accra that the National Democratic Party (NDC) which was the main opposition party had been given only a verbal notice.
“It was only a notice that we will be invited for the celebrations,” Mr Bagbin said and indicated that the possibility of the NDC not participating in the event was likely to have implications on the maturity of the nation.
He said the NDC did not have the intention of undermining the celebrations.
The party is still waiting for an invitation from the government to participate in the celebrations, Mr Bagbin said and added, “I want the government to behave like a fatherly organisation for all.”
Mr Bagbin touched on the invitation to Former President Rawlings which he said did not bear details as to whether he could attend with his wife or the Former Vice President.
He said when the Former President requested some key party functionaries to be present at the meeting between him and the government delegation, they thought the issues would concentrate on the stalemate between the former and the sitting heads of state.
Mr Bagbin urged the majority in Parliament to be receptive of criticism and alternative views from the opposition since their “true state of the nation’s address” did not seek to challenge the position of the President.
