A 23-year-old student of Accra Polytechnic,Richard Boamah, alias Willie, has been arrested and placed in Police custody for defrauding students of the University of Ghana of over 14 million cedis.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in charge of Legon Police Station, Michael Teku said Boamah collected the money under the pretext of securing visas for the students.
He said so far four students had lodged complaints at the Police Station.
DSP Teku, said in November 2006, Boamah collected an undisclosed amount of pound sterling from a number of students with the promise to issue them with UK visas but failed to do so.
Boamah also displayed posters on the Legon campus informing students about the UK visas.
DSP Teku said Boamah had also targeted students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
He said the suspect would soon appear before court.
