The Convention People’s Party has pledged to do all within its power to democratically restore the CPP to power at the next general election.
A statement issued in Accra on Friday and signed by the General Secretary of the party, Prof Nii Noi Dowuona said the party was confident that the people would rally behind the Nkrumahist agenda for the revival of hope and prosperity.
The statement said the quest for attaining an all round continental integration as the basis for emancipation of the people of African decent as envisioned and vigorously pursued by Dr Nkrumah would be the focus of the revival objective.
“Nkrumahists must therefore commit themselves to this task until victory is won in the year 2008,” it stressed.
The statement said “it is our conviction that efforts to free Ghana, Africa and the black race forever shall be crowned with success”.
It said February 24, 1966 would forever remain in the minds of black people all over the world as the day the struggle for liberation from the yoke if colonialism was dealt a severe blow.
“It was the day that the progressive CPP government was overthrown in a reactionary coup d’etat. On this occasion of darkest day in our political history, the CPP pays tribute to the memory of the patriots who lost their lives on that fateful day defending the cause of Osagyefo, Dr Kwame Nkrumah and his CPP government,” the statement said.
It added that it was pertinent to remind themselves of the struggle for emancipation, self dignity and equality by the black people and the significant role played by the Osagyefo towards the attainment of these laudable goals.
The statement said until the emergence of the CPP in 1949 which eventually won political independence for Ghana, most Africans were made to believe that they were an inferior race and needed to be ruled in their own interest.
