The NDC says it is reliably informed that the ruling NPP plans to embarrass and intimidate members of the NDC including its flagbearer who will be attending the Independence Day parade on March 6th.
The party has therefore called on the national security apparatus to assure its officials and members who will be attending the parade of maximum security to avert what they called the planned embarrassment of its officials by NPP ‘hawks’.
The party made this known at a press conference held on Sunday afternoon.
The Press Conference was called to inform the public that the NDC will be attending the March 6th Independence Day parade.
According to the National Chairman of the party Dr. Kwabena Adjei, the NDC will be represented by a delegation led by its flagbearer, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills.
Dr. Kwabena Adjei explained that the decision to attend the parade was informed by the party’s respect for fallen heroes of Ghana whose sacrifices brought the country independence.
He said it was also out of respect for the foreign dignitaries that would be attending the ceremony.
Dr. Kwabena Adjei also said the NDC would want to take the opportunity of the celebrations to acknowledge the party’s own contributions to Ghana’s history.
The party is however calling for maximum security for its officials and members during the parade so as to prevent their members from being embarrassed.
The NDC nonetheless wished all Ghanaians a happy Golden Jubilee anniversary and called on all party sympathizers to participate in the 6th march parade.
Meanwhile, the founder of the NDC and former president, Jerry Rawlings has turned down the government’s invitation to attend the 6th March golden jubilee celebration.
The party however says the decision of its founder not to attend is a personal one and must not be linked to the NDC as a party.
