More people are donating in support of Sulemana Muhibatu, a four-month-old baby who was born without an anus after her plight was aired on Joy FM.
Parents of Muhibatu discovered after a week of delivery that their baby girl was unable to attend to nature’s call by herself, she is the fourth child of her parents.
The situation was reported to doctors at the Tamale Teaching Hospital who later referred them to the Konfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi where doctors created an opening in her stomach through which she passes waste.
Muhibatu’s parents are peasant farmers in a remote village called Yoggu in the Tolon District of the Northern Region. They were expected to raise seven thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 7,000) but this has become a nightmare for the family.
Following Joy FMs coverage of the story, many benevolent people and corporate bodies have contributed support in various forms to enable little Muhibatu undergo the surgery which will give her an anus.
Kwame Adomfo who also heard about the little baby’s woes came with a hundred Ghana cedis (GHC100.00) donation and says he was touched by the news of the girl's predicament and decided to come by and make his presentation.
He said he feels the need to be part of Mahibatu’s story and could not rest until he did so.
Manufacturers of Bel Aqua mineral water and a group of friends from the University of Cape Coast have also donated GH¢7,000 and GH¢1,630 respectively to support the child.
