More than 7,000 residents at Mangu in the Upper West region have been practicing open defecation because they are unable to access toilet facilities.
The area boasts of only two public toilets with majority of the people resorting to open defecation.
The Assemblyman of the area, Farouk Abdul Saeed told Joy News' correspondent Rafiq Salaam that because the community was not well developed, residents are finding it very difficult to put up their own toilet facilities.
However, the assembly, he said has been able to provide only one communal container [unconventional toilet], placed at a vantage point for the people to use.
Rafiq, who visited the Mangu Township also reported that the residents were getting worried with the insanitary conditions in the community.
