Voting in elections is an act of citizenship, which is a true celebration of democracy and towards achieving the Constitution's vision of power to the people. The will of the Ghanaian people has been unequivocally expressed and their electoral desires have been made manifest.The victory of the elections is expressed in the dogged will of the people to exercise their franchise at all costs, just to be part of a history-making process. The role of the thumb in giving a fresh lease of life, or a terminal kiss, cannot be downplayed.By the powers vested in the thumbs of the Ghanaian electorate, they have decided to hand this country a Parliament without an absolute majority to any of the political parties. The ordinary person's thumb has also determined that the presidential election go into a second round. The ultimate power of the people has spoken and our only duty is to humbly respect it.By virtue of the hung parliament that has been thrust on us, the dire consequences on the Legislative House can only be doused by harmonious cohabitation.The importance of the thumb, in expressing one's democratic aspirations, must never again be taken for granted by our political elite. The looming and lurking presence of the thumb in our democratic dispensation, is supposed to hold governments to their election promises and limiting their excesses.When the peoples' faith in a political system begins to erode away, their only hope of remedy is the thumb. The thumb is the only finger on the human hand, which allows for a firm grip of objects and by implication, the symbol of the definite expression of one's will.By the power of the thumb, the high and mighty have fallen, and the new breed of politicians must learn to fulfill the electoral contract that they have made with their constituents. They have just been handed a four-year term, after which they would be made to account for their stewardship.The 'thumbs up' gesture is a sign of approval in many cultures and an obscene gesture in many others.Their individual performances would determine which 'thumbs up' they get.
