The Health Service Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress (HSWU), has welcomed the government's swift response to its one week ultimatum for the payment of salary arrears due its members.On December 8, the union gave a one week ultimatum to government to pay the revised, salary as well as arrears due some categories of health workers on pay Scale Two.A statement by the General Secretary of HSWU, Abu D. Kuntulo, commended the Health Minister, Major Courage Quashigah (Rtd), for responding quickly to the "unfortunate handling of the overdue salary arrears to their members for almost a year".On December 9, the Minister wrote to the Controller and Accountant General urging him to quickly implement the revised salary grading to the affected categories of health workers.It reminded the government that the affected workers constituted the largest segment of the country's health delivery system and cautioned against toying with their conditions of service.Source: Ghanaian Times
