PRESS STATEMENT BY THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF CHARISMATIC AND CHRISTIAN CHURCHES (NACCC) ON THE "HITLIST" SAGA AND ELECTION 2008The National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches (NACCC) is joining all Ghanaians to thank the Almighty God for seeing us through a successful Parliamentary and Presidential Election on December 7, 2008.The Association has observed with dismay the ongoing public discourse on a purported "HITLIST" of persons targeted for elimination including Clergymen and politicians. We wish to place on record the following:
- Whereas we are yet to verify the authorship of the said emails, we wish to sound caution to the media and the general public to desist from making judgmental and conclusive statements on the subject. It is obvious that such commentary is adding to the already charged political atmosphere.
- We take exception to the use of modern communication tools to disseminate information that promote panic fear and intimidation.
- We wish to reiterate the call on the National Security Apparatus to exercise their democratic rights within the constitution in order to assure citizens of a stable and peaceful environment. Furthermore, we urge them to use any available technology to establish the veracity of those messages and track the culprits in the shortest possible time.
- It is our firm belief that the Lord "Great Shepherd of our host" will preserve all the alleged targets on the said list. Our prayers will continue to be with all of them and the nation as a whole.
