Police in Tamale have arrested ten people, following renewed clashes ostensibly between supporters of the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party.One person has allegedly sustained gunshot wounds and said to be responding to treatment.Even though the cause of the clashes is not immediately known, DCOP Frank Ofosu Gyeabour, Northern Regional Police Commander says no political motives could immediately be imputed.He told Joy News on Thursday his outfit was alerted of a security breach in Kamile, and moved swiftly to restore law and order.“On arrival at the scene the onlookers run into a house. Police immediately surrounded the house where one young man in possession of locally manufactured gun was arrested after he allegedly shot one person,” DCOP Gyeabour narrated to Joy News.He added police have begun investigations to ascertain the real cause of the clashes.The ten arrested include four women.DCOP Gyeabour warned the police will clamp down heavily on people who foment trouble in the region.He said the police will not succumb to any political pressure if it turns out the clashes had any political undertones.The Northern Regional capital has witnessed needless political clashes leading to loss of lives and properties.Prior to the December general elections, three people died in Gushiegu, a suburb of Tamale over similar clashes.Story by Nathan Gadugah
