Two men from Bakado in Sekondi, Shaban Karim, 25-year old mechanic and Mohammed Tanko, 20, a mason, have been granted bail in the sum of 16,000 Ghana cedis with two sureties to be justified by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for attempting to sell fake gold.
They pleaded not guilty to defrauding by false pretence and will re-appear on October 22.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided by Mr. Justice Obeng Asante that the complainant in the case, Kwaku Armah, is a gold dealer at Nsuta in Tarkwa.
He said at about 01100 hours on September 25 the accused persons went to the complainant's shop and offered a piece of gold valued 1,000 Ghana cedis for sale but the gold was later found to be fake.
The complainant quickly informed the police on phone and the accused persons were arrested and detained.
Chief Inspector Amponsah said during interrogation, the accused persons told the police that it was one Nana, a friend, who gave them the fake gold to sell.
