The Acting Chief Executive of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Mabel Sagoe, has confirmed that the vehicle which was sent by Chief Kufuor, son of former President Kufuor, to the offices of the DVLA was seized by a mob.Mrs Sagoe indicated that the man who gave the instructions refused to disclose his identity.The DVLA boss denied reports that the Toyota Land Cruiser which originally belonged to Chief Kufuor, brother of the former President, was being re-registered.She said the vehicle had only been taken to the offices of the DVLA for the renewal of its road-worthy certificate.Reports dominating the headlines over the last few days have flung up allegations that fleets of vehicles belonging to the state have been hauled to the DVLA for registration or re-registration as private assets.But speaking to Joy News on Friday, the DVLA boss indicated that only four vehicles had been re-registered as private cars of former government officials, contrary to reports that several of them have already been given private labels.Narrating the incident to Joy FM correspondents, Mrs Sagoe said she had been informed on Friday that a gentleman in mufti had stormed the premises of the licensing authority to accost persons believed to be registering state vehicles.She said when asked to produce a letter instructing the agency to refuse the processing of transfers of ownership of vehicles, the man could not immediately produce any.“Indeed we received the letter later on in the day directing us that unless we received authorisation from the Chief Director of the Office of the President, we should not transfer [any vehicle],” she indicated.Mrs Sagoe said the police had to be called in to restore order later in the day.The Minister’s ‘wheels’The four-wheel drive belonging to a deputy minister (name withheld) was later returned to her.According to Mrs Sagoe, the minister was then to submit letters indicating the ownership transfer. “She hadn’t started any process; she didn’t even get to our front desk,” the DVLA boss said.Mrs Sagoe confirmed that so far only four letters requesting the transfer of ownership of state vehicles have reached her desk yet to be approved.Stakeholders in crunch meetingMeanwhile the Chairman of the government Transition Team, Mr P.V.
