Reverend Father Bobby Benson, Director of Mattew Chapter 25, HIV/AIDS centre in Koforidua, has called for concerted efforts to protect the rights of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) to stop prejudice against them.
He expressed worry that despite measures by individuals and organisations, including Churches to prevent discrimination and stigmatization against PLWHA, they continued to suffer from the unfortunate situation.
Rev. Fr. was speaking at a ceremony to welcome a 9-member team of the African Development Association for Progress (ADAP), from U.K, in Koforidua on Sunday.
He appealed to individuals and organisations to support the vulnerable, especially those suffering from incurable diseases such as HIV/AIDS.
Rev. Fr. Benson said Mattew Chapter 25 was caring for 64 PLWHA and paying for anti retroviral drugs for them and sponsoring 95 orphans and vulnerable children from basic to tertiary institution.
He regretted that most of the children at the centre were neglected by families after the death of their parents through AIDS whiles others had been abandoned because their mothers had contracted the disease and were living at the centre.
Mr. Kwaku Boateng Olaleye, leader of the team, said the group made up of nurses, teachers and administrators were in the country to assist implementation programmes of the centre.
He said ADAP had donated computers and accessories and 3,000 Pounds Sterling to support HIV/AIDS project of the centre.
Some of the inmates of Mattew Chapter 25 GNA spoke with, commended Rev. Fr. Benson for supporting them and their children and appealed to the public to come to their aid.
