All is set for the 19th CNN-Multi Choice African Journalist of the year award which is to be held in Tanzanian capital, Dar Es Salaam.
There are 28 finalists from 48 English, French and Portugese African countries.
Speaking to JoyNews, Dzifa Bampoh emphasised the importance of the event.
“It’s a platform that gives recognition to the work of journalists have done work across the continent but more importantly it also raises certain issues, it brings the story out and also gives a voice to the voiceless.”
On what the future holds for the CNN Multi Choice partnership which is 10 years old, Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Africa, Nico Meyer explained that the collaboration is of immense importance for the development of journalism in Africa.
“Our particular partnership with CNN, which we value has now been running for a decade and we believe we can provide a platform as well as the expertise that the CNN brings to the awards and it forms a great partnership which we appreciate and allows this wards to grow in stature and take it to the next level…we want to continue to grow these awards into the future.”
There is no Ghanaian nominee this year. Previous winners have been Isreal Laryea, Anny Osabutey and Gifty Andoh-Appiah.
The 'CNN African Journalist of the Year Competition' was established in August 1995 to encourage, promote and recognise excellence in African journalism.
