Chief of the Alavanyo traditional area in the Volta Region Togbui Tsedze Atakora has described as harsh the imposition of a 14 hour curfew on his town and neigbouring Nkonya township.
The curfew was imposed in response to a shooting incident last Friday and on November 21, 2014.
Last Friday's incident left one person dead and another person injured.
It is unclear what prompted these incidents.
A statement from the Interior Ministry signed by Deputy Minister, James Agalga, said the curfew will start from 4pm to 6am -- an extension on a previous 8pm to 5am curfew time.
The statement also said police and military personnel are on a 24 hour patrol schedule in the town to maintain peace.
Chief of Alavanyo traditional area Togbui Tsedze Atakora however said the new curfew time is harsh.
According to him, many people may lose their source of livelihood if the curfew is not reviewed immediately.
"Unfortunately it is our person who was killed last Friday and now we are going to have to endure...this type of harsh curfew. I don't think I have anything to do about it but to say our people will only have to endure", he said.
He said he will meet chiefs in the area to formally petition government on the curfew period.
