A makeshift structure to quarantine Ebola infected persons in case of an outbreak in the Upper West Region has been overrun by weeds and lizards.
According to Rafiq Salam, the state of the Ebola isolation centre which is located at the Wa Regional Hospital would make it difficult to serve its purpose should a case of the deadly virus be detected.
The situation has caused residents of Wa, the regional capital, to doubt the region's preparedness to fight the deadly disease should an outbreak occur.
Constructed in July 2014 at the height of fears the deadly virus could penetrate Ghana's borders from neighbouring Burkina Faso, nothing has changed since then.
"There is a white bulb hanging on a wooden beam that has not been put off since the setting up of the centre some five months ago", reports Rafiq.
Also the two beds that make up the content of the isolated tent have been covered entirely by dust, cobwebs and faecal matter of lizards -- a sign the place has not been swept since it was put up.
But Public Relations Officer of the Wa Regional Hospital, Abdallah Kayana, says there is no cause for alarm.
He explains that the fact that an isolation centre has been put up should be enough proof of the hospital's resolve to contain the disease in case of an outbreak.
"We are actually expecting GH¢100,000 to put up a very decent centre in preparedness towards the Ebola epidemic in case [of an outbreak]", Mr Kayana affirmed.
