Hearing of the case involving Ghanaian lady busted in the United Kingdom (UK) for smuggling 12.5 kilograms of cocaine has been postponed to tomorrow.

The case which opened on November 27, 2014 at the Isleworth Crown Court in London was moved to January 2015 to enable the prosecutor establish whether the substance that Nayele Ametefeh was carrying was indeed cocaine.

Nana Ansah Oboufour who works with Naspa radio in London told Joy News everyone following the case is surprised with the latest development.

He said the listings he has for cases to be heard on 5 January, 2015 does not include the Nayele Ametefeh case.

“Ghanaians in the UK are confused, because almost everyone who was at the court on 27 November, 2014, was preparing to go to the court on Monday [January 5, 2014] but was surprised when they heard the news that it was shifted to January 6, 2015”, he said.

Mr Oboufour said a source at the court informed him the case has been moved to January 6, 2015.

Nayele Ametefeh was arrested at the Heathrow International Airport on November 10, 2014, when she attempted to enter the UK with the cocaine in her hand luggage.

She was subsequently charged with Class A drug trafficking, put before the Uxbridge Magistrate Court on Thursday November 11, 2014 and remanded in prison custody.

During her second court appearance, via a video link on Thursday November 27, 2014, she pleaded guilty to all the charges levelled against her.

Many have expressed fear that the guilty plea means it would be difficult to know exactly what happened and who her accomplices were.

According to experts, Nayele faces a prison term that ranges between 10 to 16 years.
