The Nayiri, Naa Bohugu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga, King of Mamprugu, has called on the people of the Mamprugu kingdom to make 2015 a turning point in their lives.

He said the people must strive to end all forms of ethnic conflicts that has disrupted the peace and tranquility enjoyed by the people in the region.

“I wish to appeal to the warring factions to bury the heartache, forget the past and let us welcome the year 2015 with hopes and lots of expectations.”

He said peace and unity are important ingredients for development.

“All the resources, energies and ideas will be directed at destroying each other instead of putting them together for the common good of all. Resources and time will be used in resolving the problems and maintaining peace and order using them to provide the much needed social amenities like water and sanitation facilities, school buildings, health facilities, markets and many others.”

The Nayiri stated this in his New Year message to mark the celebration of the Damba festival at Nalerigu in the Northern Region.

Leaders of the Mamprugu kingdom which is made up of  Mamprusi, Bimobas, Konkombas, Kusasis among others were all at the palace to pay homage to him as part of the Damba festival.

He said it was regrettable to recall the sad incident that nearly disturbed the security of the Mamprugu.

He congratulated the REGSEC and DISEC for their swift action which brought the Nankpanduri conflict under control.

The Nayiri also acknowledged the leadership of the East Mamprusi District Chief Executive Adam Imoro and the Northern Regional Security council for displaying a high sense of maturity and neutrality in handling the Bimoba and Konkomba conflict.

“I crave your indulgence to admit that the factions in the conflict confided in me to say kudos to Hon. Adam Imoro for displaying a high sense of maturity and neutrality in handling the situation. That, their unflinching believe and undoubted trust is what had convinced them to come this far in resolving the hitherto fragile situation. I also wish to thank members of REGSEC, DISEC and all who contributed in diverse ways to bringing an end to the conflict in the area and urge them to continue with their mediation process to ensure ever lasting peace to the area and other parts of the country to make Ghana one the most peaceful nations in the sub region and beyond.”

The Mamprugu King also added his voice on the call on Ghanaians to embrace the National Sanitation day.

He said the absence of communal spirit in our localities is what has contributed to the poor sanitation the nation is engulfed in.
