Following a nationwide strike by workers of MMT, Transport Minister Dzifa Ativor has directed the company’s Board to deal with alleged mismanagement which came out of an investigative report.

The minister is also asking the Board to present its final decision to her Ministry by Friday.

An investigative report initiated by the Board Chairman Osabarima Ansah Sasraku III had accused the Managing Director Noble Appiah of breaking some procurement regulations.

But the workers have come to the defense of the Managing Director and are rather pointing accusing fingers at the Board Chairman Osabarima Ansah Sasraku III and Deputy Managing Director (DMD) John Awuku Dzuazah.

The DMD has been accused of being behind the disappearance of 12 buses in the government-run transport company. They are using the bizarre disappearance of the vehicles as basis to call for the dismissal of the Deputy Managing Director and the Board Chair.

In a petition sent to the Transport minister, the workers have also complained about the lack of genuine spare parts for broken down vehicles.

Dzifa Ativor has asked workers for more time to deal with their grievances.

“Certain decisions are beyond me so I have asked for time to go back and work on them and come back to you” she told an emotionally charged group of workers wearing red arm bands.

She has however managed to get the workers to call off the strike. The company’s Board is to meet to look into a merry-go-round of accusations to enable the Transport Minister take a decision on the matter after Friday.

The strike disrupted travel plans of many commuters especially traders and students who prefer to use the services of the government-run bus company because it is cheaper than private transport operators.
