Two suspected hardened criminals, who usually rape their female victims at gunpoint during their robbery expeditions, have been arrested in Kumasi, with the police urging the victims to seek medical attention because the robbers allegedly have an undisclosed disease.
The two robbers, described as very dangerous, are Kwaku Owusu, 22, and Apraku Adabor, 24, and they usually operated at Atasemanso, Daaban, Apraman, Daaban New Site and other areas.
The Police suspected that they might have infected their victims with the disease.
Addressing a press conference in Kumasi yesterday, ACP Ampofo Duku, Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, said one Magnum revolver, one locally manufactured pistol, one jack knife, one black hat and three live 'AAA' ammunition, were found on the suspects.
ACP Duku said Apraku Adabor, the ring leader, has a certain disease so females that he had raped should seek medical attention, urging the victims to come forward and testify against the suspects.
Kwaku Owusu exchanged fire with the police whilst driving a stolen Toyota RAV 4 car, registered AW 5555-13 at Buokrom Abease on December 24, 2014, before the police eventually overpowered him.
Apraku Adabor, who was in the Toyota RAV 4 car which they had snatched from Fu Chun, a Chinese national, initially escaped, but police intelligence led to his arrest at Atwima on January 8, 2015.
They snatched the car, an amount of GHȻ3,000 and a Samsung mobile phone from the Chinese man around 9:00pm on December 24, 2014 at gunpoint.
One of their accomplices, Kwame Boozen, is currently on the run and the police are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to arrest him, the police chief said.
ACP Duku noted that the suspects were linked to several high file robberies in the city, especially Atasemanso and its surroundings adding that they usually raped the female victims.
He said the suspects sometime ago robbed Appiah Sarpong, a lec er at the Christian Service UniversityCollege, at his Atasemanso resider, where they took away his GHȻ1,100 and a Toyota Corolla car, registered AS 4151-11, which they dumped at Santase roundabout.
These same suspected robbers, ACP Duku said, also shot Richmoru Darfah, a staff of MTN, in the head, before they robbed him of his four mobile phones, a laptop and an unspecified amount of money in his house at Atasemanso Abuoso.
He noted that Darfah, luckily, survived the shooting after he was hospitalised for some weeks, adding that the suspects raped two ladies during separate robbery expeditions at Daban New Site and Atasemanso New Site.
