The Health Ministry has as a matter of urgency directed that all of its assets across the country be insured in the wake of the fire that gutted the Central Medical Stores in Tema.
The Ghana Health Service on Wednesday admitted that the Central Medical Stores, where all of Ghana's medical and related supplies are kept, was not insured.
However, the Health Ministry has now resolved to rectify the defect.
Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Health Service, Tony Goodman, told Joy News although the fire incident was unfortunate critical lessons have been learnt.
He said vehicles and other hospital facilities would be insured as soon as possible to preempt a similar loss like in the Central Medical Stores fire.
The fire that ravaged the store where supplies are kept for distribution to health facilities across the country has lasted for more than 24 hours.
Joy News' Kwetey Nartey said Thursday although the fire is now under control, the flames have not been put out totally.
Estimates of the loss caused by Tuesday's blaze have been pegged at GH¢273 million in medicines and other essential supplies including hospital beds and other equipment, according to the Health Ministry.
