Islamic scholar Sheikh Ibrahim Saanah, has called on Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of tolerance and is advocating for non-Islamic oriented schools to do something in the interest of Muslims.
Speaking on the “My Banner” segment of the AM Show on JoyNews, Sheikh Saana also expressed worries about the level of discrimination among the general citizenry when it comes to religious related issues.
He raised the fact that people are entitled to their religious beliefs, citing how the constitution spells out the right of religion and association in the country, making it an entrenched provision.
Touching on the essence of the Hijab which has attracted a lot of commentary in the past weeks, he said, using the hijab is one avenue a true Muslim lady can express her faith.
He said, the hijab is relevant to every true Muslim woman and that no Muslim woman can do away with her hijab.

“It is unfair; it is unconstitutional because the constitution tells us to express that faith, for those schools that oppress the issue of putting on hijab is unfair and unconstitutional”, he said.
He also explained how the hijab promotes decency in women and protects them against immoral activities.
“Wearing hijab is a religious requirement; they wear it in order not to be harassed by men. They use it to cover their heads and chest”
Speaking on what he termed “ill-perception of Islam”, he emphasized how we can trace many scholars, leaders and renowned persons in the country who attended Islamic schools countrywide, citing Ahmaddiya Schools as an example.
“This country has a lot of leaders who attended Ahmadiyya Schools nationwide and people look at Muslims as monsters”.
He called on Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of tolerance, throwing the challenge to non-Islamic oriented schools, to make an effort to protect the interests and faith of Muslims.
“If such schools are in Ghana, they should guard their laws to fit Muslims as well, we still have a long way to go with issues of tolerance”
