The Kumasi Circuit Lay Movement of the Methodist Church Ghana (MCG) has held its Eighth Biennial General Meeting in Kumasi with a call on the church to take up the challenge of assisting to provide members with employable skills.
The Reverend Laud Annor Tetteh, Minister in-charge of the Wharton Memorial Methodist Church, said with the huge resources at the churches disposal they could play vital role in efforts at bringing down the country’s rising unemployment, particularly among the youth.
Trades and vocation training should therefore be made an integral part of its mission, he said.
The meeting was held under the theme: “Witnessing to Christ in Holistic Spirituality,” and offered the platform for the laity to take stock of its activities and discuss ways to enhance growth.
The Rev Tetteh asked the laity to deepen its relationship with the clergy, saying the church’s development was a shared responsibility.
He said it was by accepting to play their expected roles well that Methodism would grow to bring more hope and development to the people.
He advised the leadership of the laity to be opened, listen to the congregation and work to get issues addressed.
Mr Joseph A. Mpiani, Lay Chairman, said they had intensified their evangelism to salvage the society from evil.
He urged the various societies within the church to work together with unity of purpose to spread the gospel.
