Ivory Coast coach Herve Renard has called on the Confederation of African Football to implement an "African-only" rule for coaches at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Three African coaches were in charge at this year's Equatorial Guinea showpiece, namely Honour Janza of Zambia , Shakes Mashaba of South Africa and Florent Ibenge of Democratic Republic of Congo.
The only one of those three to make a splash at AFCON 2015 was Ibenge, whose Leopards side claimed bronze after a penalty shoot-out victory over the host nation following a goalless draw at the end of 120 minutes.
Meanwhile, 13 coaches at the tournament were all European, a fact that irks many within the game, especially Herve Renard, despite the tactician himself being French.
The coach, who led the Elephants to the AFCON title following victory over Ghana in Sunday's final, explained how he would change the trend of European coaches in Africa, saying that forcing federation hands may be the only answer.
"For the national team of any country, there should be coaches from that country," said the former Zambia coach.
"This is my opinion. Now I am working against myself by saying that because I have worked in a lot of different countries - but I think it would be good.
"It would be great to introduce this rule. Are African coaches capable? I simply say, look at the Cup of Nations record of (Egypt's Hassan) Shehata and (Nigeria's Stephen) Keshi. That tells you all you need to know."
Renard has also urged Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba to consider one day taking over the national team reins, with the Chelsea forward having previously spoken of his desire to acquire UEFA coaching qualifications.
"That would make others take up coaching too," admitted Renard. "Drogba can make a big difference. The man is a monument."
