The chiefs and citizens of Asogli State on Monday began a week's fasting and prayers to seek God's intervention for the socio-economic development of the Volta Region, especially Ho, the regional capital.
The daily three-hour evening prayer session is themed 'God said, I will heal your land'.
Togbe Kotoku XI, Paramount Chief of Kpenoe Traditional Area and Co-ordinator of the event, said the chiefs resolved to seek the face of God for the development of the regional capital and the entire region following the failure of successive governments to do so.
"Our story is a very sad one. We have been promised a facelift several times but there is nothing to show for it. We can't compare Ho to any regional capital. Our roads are bad. Many projects stalled; we have no sports stadium, and it continues," he said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.
Togbe Kotoku, an evangelist, lamented that demonstrations by various groups and verbal expressions of concern about the situation have failed to move duty bearers to act positively to remedy the situation, but he was hopeful "God will hearken to our cry."
He said prayers would be offered for development projects for the land, peace and unity among the people, successful homes and marriages, repentance and prayers against sudden deaths and curses on the land.
The event would be climaxed with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, February 15, on the grounds of the Ho-Bankoe Junior High School.
