The University of Ghana says all primary contacts of a student who tested positive to Covid-19, have tested negative after going through the 14-day period of quarantine.
The contacts are 82 students and 12 university staff.
“Seventy-four of the primary contacts (students) who were present on campus at the time the University received information about the Covid-19 case, were asked to self-quarantine on campus to avoid the risk of community spread.
“The remaining eight who had already left the campus for their homes as well as the employees, were advised by the UG-ERT and the NCTT to self-quarantine at home.
“After initial logistical challenges, the contacts were re-located to a quarantine facility on campus. This paved the way for easy management and care, such as daily health checks and monitoring, feeding, as well as providing them psychological support,” a statement from the university said.
The contacts have since been conveyed to their various locations as the university is closed as part of measures to stop the spread of the dreaded disease.
The affected student is meanwhile, at the national quarantine facility and is making “steady progress.”
“We pray for her complete recovery to enable her to be discharged soon,” the university said.
