The Police administration says it will use all powers accorded it by law to stop a planned demonstration by a group calling itself concerned Ghanaians.

The group has notified the police about its planned demonstration on March 6, to protest the insane power crisis that has hit the country.

But the police insist that due to the important national assignment on March 6-the independence it will not be distracted by a demonstration.

In a statement signed by Effia Tenge who is with the Greater Accra Police Public Affairs unit, the police administration said it has duly communicated to the group, the inability of the police to offer protection when the demonstration is held on March 6.

With all the explanation given, the group has refused to consider a postponement and has deliberately decided to take the law into their own hands to act otherwise.

The statement said "in as much as police respects the Constitutional and Fundamental Human Rights of every individual and group of persons, regarding the holding of special events , the collective decision of any group should however fall in line with the Public Order Act, 1994, (ACT 491) which explicitly spells out the modalities and proper conduct of any such event.

"As such, any attempt by any group of persons to demonstrate on the said date which is likely to jeopardize the grand celebration of the 58th  Anniversary of the country will not be countenanced."

The statement concluded the police is prepared to give the group maximum protection and security if they decide to postpone the demo.
