Police in the Northern Region have received the full backing of the Northern Regional Security Council to strictly enforce all road safety rules without any interference by any authority.
The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Salifu Saeed, who chairs the Council, says they are going all out to activate all measures with the potential to drastically reduce road crashes in the region.
It is the Council's pledge towards Joy News’ Arrive Alive campaign which is geared towards reducing the high rate of road crashes in the country.
While giving a similar directive to all political heads in the region not to interfere in the work of the police, especially when it concerns road safety, Alhaji Salifu Saeed encouraged the police in the region to also be bold and arrest all traffic offenders.
“I am giving a very clear message in a very concise language that the police officers, the MTTD people, they have my hundred per cent backing, support, that they should make sure that people who violate the traffic rules and regulations should be apprehended and given on the spot fines.
“When they do that it will serve as a deterrent to some of the people who would have also engaged in such activities,” he said.
Joy News’ Arrive Alive campaign has been endorsed by the Catholic Church in Tamale, with a call on the local media in the Northern Region to emulate the road safety campaign.
